Should I See a Therapist?

A common misconception is that therapy is only beneficial to those with mental health issues; however, therapy is a valuable tool for all age groups and individuals. Mental health is like a muscle, and just as we need to keep active in our day to day life to maintain our physical health, therapy can strengthen our mental health. Therapy is a beneficial tool used by numerous groups, including individuals, couples, work teams, families, etc. While everyone can benefit from mental health support, we understand that committing with both your time and energy can be a complex decision. This is why at Pynk Health, we deliver our counselling through telehealth services, enabling women to flexibly and confidently access counselling services from the comfort of their homes. Our online services offer a variety of benefits such as:

  • Ease of access
  • Secure online communication
  • Specialised treatment
  • Convenient scheduling

Accessible counselling services are essential for safe and convenient mental health support. Struggling with mental health issues alone can lead to many difficulties in life and further exacerbate numerous conditions.
If you are experiencing any of the following, please seek help:

  • Difficulty regulating emotions
  • Decreased performance at work or school
  • Difficulty building or maintaining relationships
  • Traumatic experiences
  • Loss of enjoyment in activities you used to enjoy
  • Difficulty communicating
  • Physical deterioration
  • Addictive behaviour

By working with one of our highly experienced psychologists, we can equip you with the tools and support you need to help overcome the challenges mental health issues present.

Narrative Therapy

Using a narrative perspective to objectify and reframe problems. This therapy essentially uses storytelling to help you minimise problems and shape your own identity. Narrative therapy also allows you to explore the connection between your actions by reframing the problem.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

A talking therapy typically involving weekly sessions and skills training to practice acceptance and healthy processing. This therapy is often used for those diagnosed with BPD and may continue for up to a year, but ultimately the timeframe depends on your needs.

Schema-Focused Therapy

A combined therapy modality involving traditional cognitive behaviour therapy to identify and alter unhealthy processing. These unhealthy processes are referred to as schemas and are categorised into five domains: disconnection and rejection, impaired autonomy and performance, impaired limits, other-directedness and over vigilance and inhibition.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational enhancement through the four guiding principles of RULE. RULE stands for Resist the righting reflex, Understand the patient’s own motivations, Listen with empathy and Empower the patient. The therapist aims to guide and strengthen the patient’s motivation through these four guiding principles.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy

A combination of cognitive behavioural techniques and mindfulness strategies used to effectively process thoughts and emotions experienced during distress. MBCT is used to treat many mental health concerns and is generally delivered weekly.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

An eight-phase therapy that uses eye movements to help process memories and disturbing emotions. This therapy uses the biological mechanisms involved in Rapid Eye Movement or REM sleep to activate the healing processes required for psychological trauma.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

A therapy focused on developing psychological skills and introspective clarification to focus attention on meaningful growth. ACT is an action-oriented approach that teaches patients how to accept their negative emotions rather than avoid them.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Commonly referred to as CBT, cognitive behaviour therapy is a practical therapy typically used to treat depression and anxiety. CBT combines cognitive and behaviour therapy to reframe how we approach issues and teach us helpful behavioural techniques that reintroduce positive thoughts.

Our psychologists have extensive experience providing therapy for individuals and couples facing such issues as depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship difficulties. Using a number of techniques, your psychologist can provide you with individualised treatment that suits your personal preferences and goals.

How Much Does Therapy Cost?

PLEASE NOTE: We do not offer bulk billing.

Before you book your appointment to see a psychologist, it is important to consider the costs involved. This will help you to weigh your options and make the right decision for you and your health. Patients with a referral/mental health care plan from a GP will be eligible to claim a rebate from Medicare. We accept direct deposit or credit card/debit cards.

To suit your individual needs and preferences, sessions with a psychologist can be spaced weekly, fortnightly, or monthly.

For more information about costs, inquire at Pynk Health.
